Sometimes we all catch ourselves in the dumps of a temporary depression no matter how strong and tough a person is. The spark of a memory can lock up our throats, tighten our chest, and create some tears that flow down our faces. We’ve all been taught that grief is a sign of pain but I say that may not be the case. Sometime grief is a release, something that makes us all more of a Human Being than any other emotion. Sadness is a reality that is indeed humbling in one’s humanity. If treated as a time of reflection that has with it the happier times and funnier times of those memories we can overcome grief and throw off that sadness.
The pain of cutting one’s self and injury is far different than that of sadness and grief to which is true for sure. Even illness-sickness is much different that can bring on a similar grief and much familiar sadness. It’s how we all deal with the physical pain than that of an emotional mind, heart, and soulful response to our beloved losses of loved ones.
I am reminded of a Psalm of David that speaks to the grace and mercy of our God, Elohim Yehovah El Shaddai.
Psalms 73:26 - “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever”.
Our hearts and minds may fail and they most certainly will but in God and with God our grief, grieving, and loss of our beloved friends and family members God is our eternal strength to overcome and carry on in our lives. God’s love in this time is like that healing balm of Gilead.
The comfort that we find in the arms of God through His only begotten Son, Yeshua Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection we find a comfort unmatched and unrivaled. His holy and divine comfort makes things anew.
Matthew 5:4 - “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted”.
God’s grace and mercy is unlike any other because His grace, His mercy is real and is true. God never causes doubt. His sacrifice of His only begotten Son allows us to find a piece of Himself within us that we all can relate to.
John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
No matter if we mess up in life and feel the same equitable grief and loss of our sense of connection to God, He’s always there to receive us back into His gracious and loving arms.
Return Of The Prodigal Son: Luke 15:11-32 KJV
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
No matter the grief, No matter the sorrow, No matter the loss, No matter the pain; God Almighty is always there for us all. As long as we follow The Footprints of Jesus we can make it through this life.
Sweetly, Lord, Have We Heard Thee Calling,
Come, Follow Me!
And We See Where Thy Footprints Falling
Lead Us To Thee.
Footprints Of Jesus,
That Make The Pathway Glow;
We Will Follow The Steps Of Jesus
Wherever They Go.
Though They Lead Over The Cold, Dark Mountains,
Seeking His Sheep;
Or Along By Siloam’s Fountains,
Helping The Weak.
If They Lead Through The Temple Holy,
Preaching The Word;
Or In Homes Of The Poor And Lowly,
Serving The Lord.
Though, Dear Lord, In Thy Pathway Keeping,
We Follow Thee;
Through The Gloom Of That Place Of Weeping,
Gethsemane!
If Thy Way And Its Sorrows Bearing,
We Go Again,
Up The Slope Of The Hillside, Bearing
Our Cross Of Pain.
By And By, Through The Shining Portals,
Turning Our Feet,
We Shall Walk, With The Glad Immortals,
Heaven’s Golden Street.
Then At Last When On High He Sees Us,
Our Journey Done,
We Will Rest Where The Steps Of Jesus
End At His Throne.

A Prayer for When Grief Makes Praying Hard
“Jesus, my pain is so deep. My anger is fierce, my fear is crippling. And then in the midst of all of these emotions, numbness sets in. I struggle to know how to pray or where to begin! So I’m going to remind myself of truth. I know you are here with me in my grief. I know you are mending the brokenness in ways I can’t always see. Lord, hold me in your arms, take this pain and help me bear it. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.” (by Kimberly Carroll)
A Prayer for What Breaks Your Heart
Father God, thank You for the way You tenderly minister to the shattered places in my heart. I’m so grateful You are able to use every heartbreak in my life for good. I am choosing to believe today that You are leading me to a place of strength and victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. (by Lysa TerKeurst)
